Wildlife at Home

This page has pictures of the wildlife we have encountered in our new garden, just some images we thought you might enjoy. Wildlife has been a major interest of both Jamie and I so we are thrilled to show you what we have found so far. We hope to include picture of wildlife we see on our walks with the dogs as soon as we remember to take the camera along with us!

Bunnies, Bunnies everywhere & not a carrot in sight..... this is one of the many bunnies that bounce around the garden. He was a Buck and he is quite a size. This wierd and wonderful catapillar I found climbing up the wall to our porch, it is a Vapoures catapillar which will finally grow into a Moth. Isn't he just amazing. Butterflies are everywere at the moment the most common in our garden seem's to be these little chaps.
The dark fish behind the gold fish in this shot are wild carp, they are very shy and hard to capture on film, brought in on the feet of herons and other wild water birds, the eggs then hatch. We have about 20 wild fish in the pond that live alongside the 15 or so gold fish. This is a Dasher Dragon Fly captured as it waited on a leaf in our pond for a victim to fly by so it could 'dash' out and retrieve it, hence the name. The other type are longer thinner and are called 'Hunters' due to the fact that they hunt their pray rather than waiting for it to fly past like the Dasher. Blue Tits are common in most gardens, this ones seems to be braver than most coming right up to the back door of the house and helping themselves to the goodies in the bird feeder. We have three nest boxes in the garden two of which have residents at the moment.
A beautiful Fallow Deer wanders around the back garden at 4am in the morning, she was still there at 7am. Taking a nibble on the rose bushes she is unaware of Jamie taking her photo. So brave she comes right up to the back door, I'm glad the dogs didn't hear her or they would have scared her away.
This was a bullfinch we captured as it poured with rain, rarely seen these days, the bullfinch was helping itself to some of its favorite food, the seed heads from weeds. Where there's one there's more, another bullfinch came to enjoy the feast and I watched as they ate as much as they could stuff in their little beaks. One of the Damsel flies that visit our garden pond. We have three colours, red, green and the above is the blue version.
First of the frost arrive, the orchard covered in white. The dogs don't quite know what to make of it but its fun to watch them roll around in it, no matter how wet the get! This was just one of the many spiders webs I took photo's of covered in frost, just like a tiny delicate hammock you can see all the intricate little details that would have gones missed on a normal day. This was one of the very late flowering bushes from our garden frozen and covered in tiny droplets of ice.
Just before the snow hit on January 8th I took this shot of some snow drops at the bottom of our garden, such delicate flower. This was one of the early flowing bushes in the garden, rather taken by surprise by the change in temperature. The garden in full Snow Attire. Always makes everything look so pretty and clean, I just love the silence that comes with it.
This little chap is a Great Spotted Woodpecker who visited our garden last year, we spent most of last year trying to see him but failed we could hear him but never managed to get a picture....... until....... ....this year when he decided to take a peck at the trees in the orchard and we managed to catch him on camera...at last....these birds are not as common as they once were and are very hard to catch on camera! Unlike the Great Spotted Woodpecker this little chap is hard to spot, he blends into the background being a light green colour, the only thing that stands out is the red cap to his head, hopping round the garden I realised it was a green woodpecker, I rushed off to get the camera but he had dissapear to the end of the garden by the time I got back. They are very shy and hard to catch on film, he saw me moving about in the house and flew off shortly after I took this shot.
This little guys is a great crested newt, they are very rare, protected in this country and you need a liecence to hold one, he is one of many that live in our garden pond. Later on in the same day he came back to the garden and I managed to sneek into the conservatory and catch this shot before he saw me again, he had come most of the way down the garden and was helping himself to the bugs on the ground. Some of the Wild large Oxey Daisy's that grown in our garden,
